History of Auto Barn: - Eighteen years ago, in 1989, nine main Victorian specialist accessories and
Auto Parts retailers got together and founded a co-operative known as Auto Barn. Seven years later, in 1996, that co-operative became the foundation of
AutoBarn franchise system, as we call it today.
The initial thought of the
AutoBarn group was to bring together successful and existing specialist retailers of automotive accessories and parts with the mean of developing a strong business image and superior market awareness to successfully conflict the growing infiltration of large business players in the automotive retail marketplace, from such diverse quarters as Discounters, Department Stores,
Hardware Stores and, Service Stations, to name but not many, and in the process, providing the stronger advertising clout, more marketing opportunities, group greater buying power, and to provide a medium for the exchange of experiences and ideas to advantage all the members of the group.
The thought proved so successful that within 5 years the group grew to twenty eight retail stores all trading under single
Business identity and producing a successful and unique approach to the retailing of automotive accessories and parts. In 1991, all members of the group decided that AutoBarn had something to give which had proved very successful and it was different from its competitors. Therefore the concept of franchising the
AutoBarn Retail stores evolved. This is very much a franchise oriented business. This is very strongly reflected in the way the business is conducted and directed.
