BellSouth Company was a telecommunications holding company of America. The company was headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. BellSouth DSL was one to the seven innovative Regional Bell Operating Companies subsequent to the United States division of Justice enforced the American Telegraph & Telephone Company to dissociate from itself to its regional communication companies on 1st of January, 1984.

In a union announced on 5th of March, 2006 and executer on 29th of December, 2006, AT&T Inc. purchased BellSouth DSL for about 86 billion US dollar. The combined organization retained its name AT&T. the union consolidated ownership of YELLOWPAGES and Cingular Wireless, both of them were joint organizations between American Telegraph and Telephone and BellSouth DSL.

Now, BellSouth has become South American Telegraph and Telephone Company, its company operated by Bell is working as AT&T Southeast, and it will stop doing work under its previous name BellSouth DSL late in 2007. After AT&T breakup in 1984, BellSouth DSL one of the Regional companies of Bell Operating to keep its usual corporate name, in addition to the last company to retain the logo of Bell operating companies. There was a separate Bell system franchise named Cincinnati Bell is not a part of AT&T breakup, keep on to use Bell name actively, but it dropped the logo of Bell organization from its advertisements in mid of 2006.

BellSouth DSL also worked in the New Zealand and Australian market. In New Zealand it was operated under the BellSouth New Zealand Limited name from 1993 until it was acquired by Vodafone in 1998. It is operating in the Australia under name Bellsouth Australia Pty Limited.

A shared services organization called as BellSouth DSL services was founded to give centralized function like Information technology and Engineering to South Central Bell and Southern Bell. Services given by BellSouth operating area include DSL/Dial Up Internet, Telephone services in the States of Florida, Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee and South Carolina. Satellite Television service is also provided by BellSouth as a partner of DirecTV.

The company continued its largest working center in Birmingham and Atlanta. Headquarter related to Region –wide operation are also established in Birmingham and Atlanta. State –wide working centers are situated in Miami, Birmingham, Atlanta, New Orleans, Louisville, Jackson, Columbia, Charlotte and Nashville.

BellSouth is operating in two major areas, Broadband and Wireless. It has joint venture of 40% with AT&T in its wireless service. Broadband service is fully owned by company till now. Today BellSouth DSL is operating only Baby Bell it doesn’t operate Pay Telephones. BellSouth is one the largest Internet service provider company in USA that provides high speed broadband Internet Service at comparisonly low costs.
