Rosetta stone Ltd. The title of this software is given in the name of famous ancient artifact found in Egypt. The
Rosetta stone is found very helpful to the archeologist to understand the hieroglyphic writing. The researchers were able to decipher the ancient Egyptian by doing the comparison of Greek and Egyptian inscription with the help of this stone.
The
Rosetta stone is effective language learning software which uses the combination of text, image and sound to understand the difference while describing the vocabulary terms, grammar and punctuation in an intuitive manner, without any drill or translation. This is an award winning way of describing the
language which is known as method of dynamic immersion.
One unit of instructions consists of a lesson which is made with ten groups. The number of lessons in a group increases with the difficulty of the level. Each unit consists of four images with a word or sentence associated with it which is written as well as
spoken by the native speaker. Only written words are available for the
languages like Latin which doesn’t have any native speaker.
Each lesson has a set of exercise of reading
speaking and listening, for the languages which use the Latin alphabets, some writing exercises are also incorporated.
The last lesson of each unit is a revision of previous lessons, and each word described in the previous lesson is represented with an image. The software has no documentation of
grammar, only phrase or word index are represented in the form of phrase or word index.
Levels
The
Rosetta stone is presented in three different levels of difficulty, each level is sold separately, or one can purchase in bundle to avail discount. The same words and sentences are used in same order with same set of images for all languages.
The first level is made with eight units which starts with simple
vocabulary like boy, man, girl, woman etc. there are 92 lessons in the first level with the increasing level of difficulty.
The second level has nine units for instructions and 2 units are for glossary. More advance concepts of
grammar is described in the second level and focus on some specific subjects such as shopping, banking and travel. Some video clips are also incorporated with these exercises to describe some difficult verbs. The 16th and 17th units of level second are devoted to the cartoons of Saturday Evening Post with their captions. There are 118 lessons in total in second level.
The third level of
Rosetta Stone software is available for some major languages of the world. It offers some traditional units along with a set of longer video clips and writing exercises in order to expand the understanding level.
